Chokes

Chokes for shotguns come in many different sizes, to determine this size you will often find a marking on the side of your shotgun. For example, the barrels of modern Berettas have the marking OB HP. This marking indicates that the barrels are suitable in combination with Optima Choke HP Chokes that are available in different versions.

Chokes come in different sizes, for example there are short chokes that can be placed completely in the barrels of the shotgun, or chokes that are extended so that the shot column is manipulated even longer for a better result.

The most important size of chokes is the cross-section; which influences the diameter of the shot column. For example, a choke size with the designation "Full" has a smaller diameter and therefore a narrower shot column, and a choke size with the designation "Cylindrical" has a wide diameter and therefore a wider shot column.

Steel shot

Steel shot cartridges are mandatory in many countries and are often encountered on shooting ranges and in hunting. Very narrow chokes such as "Full" chokes are not suitable in combination with steel shot cartridges, because of the non-deformable shot pellets the pressure in the chokes increases too much and that can be dangerous.
